Today, Pointe Coupee Parish Schools proudly recognizes two outstanding leaders for their commitment to growth and excellence in school leadership. Mrs. LaMonica Edwards, Principal of Rosenwald Elementary, and Dr. Rosie Courville, Principal of Livonia High School, were formally recognized at today’s BESE Board meeting for successfully completing the Louisiana Department of Education’s Novice Principal Academy.
The Novice Principal Academy is a rigorous, year-long leadership development program designed to strengthen the capacity of new principals across Louisiana. Rooted in the belief that student achievement is directly tied to the quality of school leadership, the program equips principals with the tools needed to lead with purpose, analyze data effectively, and implement strategies that drive academic success.
Throughout the cohort, participants engage in intensive training that includes in-person instructional sessions, monthly mentorship with experienced school leaders, and ongoing self-reflection grounded in research-based best practices. The academy emphasizes long-range planning, instructional leadership, and the development of critical “soft skills” necessary to lead schools, support teachers, and build strong learning communities.
Mrs. Edwards and Dr. Courville demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout the program, actively engaging in mentorship, applying data-driven decision-making, and continuously refining their leadership practices to positively impact student outcomes in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Mrs. Brandi Forbes, Chief Academic Officer for Pointe Coupee Parish Schools, commended their achievement:
“Effective school leadership is one of the most critical factors in improving student achievement. Mrs. Edwards and Dr. Courville have demonstrated a commitment to their growth as instructional leaders and to the success of their students and faculty. Their completion of the Novice Principal Academy reflects not only their dedication, but also their readiness to lead with vision, purpose, and excellence. Pointe Coupee Parish is stronger because of leaders like them.”
Please join us in recognizing Mrs. Edwards and Dr. Courville on this significant professional milestone and their continued commitment to excellence in education.
