Superintendent Canezaro celebrated these outstanding educators with a special luncheon honoring their dedication and service to students throughout Pointe Coupee Parish. Each of these individuals has demonstrated excellence in education and continues to be a valuable asset to the district. They will go on to represent Pointe Coupee Parish Schools in regional and state-level competitions later this year.
Carolyn Wells – Principal of the Year
Under Mrs. Wells’ leadership, Upper Pointe Coupee Elementary has experienced a strengthened academic focus, increased collaboration among staff, and a greater sense of unity among students, families, and faculty. Mrs. Wells manages the many responsibilities of leading both an elementary and middle school with remarkable professionalism and grace. Despite the demands of her role, she consistently greets students, staff, and families with a warm smile and a willingness to help.
Myanna Edmond – Early Childhood Teacher of the Year
In her third year teaching Pre-K at Rougon Elementary, 90% of students in Ms. Edmond’s class met the benchmark on the district’s priority assessment measure—an impressive reflection of her effective instructional practices and commitment to student growth. Her gentle spirit, caring nature, and dedication help ensure that students’ earliest learning experiences are safe, engaging, and full of wonder.
Amy Deville – Elementary Teacher of the Year
In her fifth year teaching kindergarten at Rougon Elementary, 73% of Ms. Deville’s students met the benchmark on the district’s priority assessment measure. She builds strong relationships with her students, inspires a love of learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels supported, valued, and encouraged to succeed.
Ashley Chatman – Middle School Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Chatman serves as an exceptional special education teacher who brings positive energy and encouragement to her students each day. She is deeply committed to supporting diverse learners and meeting their individual needs with patience, creativity, and compassion. Mrs. Chatman consistently goes above and beyond to assist her students, colleagues, and school community in any way she can.
Hunter Neil – New Teacher of the Year
Since beginning her career at Livonia High School this year, Ms. Neil has quickly developed strong relationships with students in all of her classes. Although she recently relocated from Georgia, students have embraced her as if she has been part of the Pointe Coupee community for years. Through her deep understanding of mathematics, she makes complex concepts accessible while maintaining high academic rigor. She also excels in modeling and reinforcing strong academic vocabulary in her classroom.
Haley Capps – High School Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Capps leads the Pre-Engineering pathway at STEM Magnet Academy and has played a key role in expanding and strengthening the program. Under her leadership, students gain meaningful hands-on STEM experience while developing critical skills for future academic and career success. Her robotics team has earned national-level recognition at the BETA Convention for consecutive years. In addition, Mrs. Capps has successfully established a competitive engineering team, creating more opportunities for students to innovate, collaborate, and compete at a high level. Her vision, dedication, and passion continue to elevate engineering opportunities for students.
