Changing our world one child at a time.
The Pointe Coupee Parish Early Childhood Get Ready Network promotes high-quality care and education for children, birth to five, by supporting all who care for, educate and work on behalf of its youngest community members.
Pointe Coupee’s Current State for Early Childhood:
The Pointe Coupee Parish Early Childhood Network is made up of a diverse group of education providers in parish. The Network is composed of a partnership with 4 Type III area childcare centers and the public school’s Head Start and Pre-K programs. It also includes community partners in early childhood such as the Early Childhood Coalition, which is the parish’s Resource and Referral Agency, and Early Steps. This community network has worked together since 2012 to implement the five key strategies identified by Act 3 of the 2012 legislature to ensure that children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. The table below represents the Network’s current state for early childhood including the number of at-risk served at each location and each center’s proficiency rating.
Current data reveals that the needs of the community are not being met, with less than 4% of the parish’s at-risk infants being served in child care settings, followed by 8% of the one year olds and only 15% of our two year olds. Families are forced to use family members and/or unlicensed child care for their small children. For these reasons, the network has agreed to become a Get Ready Network with the explicit goal of addressing both the quality and access of childcare in our community. Along with quality and access, the Get Ready Network of Pointe Coupee will address family engagement and community awareness.
Goal 1: By the end of the 2024 – 2025 school year, the network will increase access to high quality early childhood seats for at-risk birth to three year olds by 25% by increasing the number of publicly funded seats in childcare settings and/or licensed family owned childcare.
Goal 2: By the end of the 2024 – 2025 school year, the network will improve the quality of all publicly funded sites by increasing the network’s overall performance score rating from proficient to highly proficient.
Goal 3: By the end of the 2024 – 2025 school year all program types will integrate and utilize one parent and family engagement curriculum for families with children who are birth to five years of age.
Goal 4: By the end of the 2024-2025 school year the network will increase community awareness of early childhood in Pointe Coupee in efforts to increase resources and funding.
