Criminal Justice Students at STEM Investigate Crime

The Criminal Justice class at STEM Magnet Academy of Pointe Coupee has been working diligently at learning about the nature of crimes, why people commit crimes, and the whole judicial process of what happens once a perpetrator has been arrested.  Sergeant Brent Plauche, Lt. Sgt. Lara Morman, and Officer Diamond visited SMA to speak to students about the prison system.  The class was shown different forms of contraband and told about real life situations that the correction officers have to face.

This elective at STEM will be taught to a rotating class of seventh and eighth graders during school year 2017-2018. The class is a fun and educational way to learn about the laws of our country, roles of law enforcement officials, and the responsibilities of citizens.  Ms. Jackie Knight and her classes will continue to explore the world of crime and the burdens that are endured by society as a result.  Some students have already expressed interest in the different types of crime fighting roles such as forensics, the FBI, the ATF, and the role of detective in investigating a crime scene.
