STEM teachers, Jo Ann Hebert and Catherine Olinde, presented at the National Ag in the Classroom conference June 20-23, 2017. While at the conference, they were able to attend several sessions with information and ideas on how to incorporate STEM Ag activities into the middle school science and math curriculum.
For their session, Jo Ann and Catherine used activities gained from Breakout.edu. Using a series of locked boxes, participants use clues to open the first box which leads to the next box until they reach the final box. The boxes were filled with clues relating to Louisiana agriculture. Jo Ann and Catherine presented the same material in four 45 minute mini-sessions. During each fast-paced mini-session, teachers were thoroughly engaged and were excited to try this activity in their own classrooms.
In addition to presenting at the conference, Mrs. Jo Ann Hebert was presented with a CHS scholarship that helped with conference registration fees.
