USE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES

 

 

The Pointe Coupee Parish School Board believes the functions of school buildings and grounds shall be to accommodate approved school programs for students and to assist in meeting the educational, cultural, civic, social, and recreational needs of communities.

 

All public school facilities shall be used for school-­related activities only.  Church functions and other community­-related functions shall be allowed at the discretion of the principal and the Superintendent.  Activities such as wedding receptions, beauty pageants, independent basketball games sponsored by non-parish teams, etc., shall be prohibited.

 

Applications for usage of school facilities shall be submitted, in writing, to the principal of the school to be used at least two (2) weeks in advance of date of usage.  The principal and Superintendent shall be responsible for evaluating the written request for approval.  It shall be understood that the use of school buildings and grounds by individuals or groups, when approved, shall be scheduled at times which do not interfere with any regular school activities, including athletic or other extra or co-curricular activities.

 

The usage of school facilities by individuals or groups shall be governed by a signed lease agreement between the individual or group and the Board.  The lease agreement shall contain, but not be limited to, the following:

 

  1. A "hold harmless" statement having the effect of holding the Board free from any liability that may arise while the facilities are in use.
     

  2. A statement requiring, with limited exception, any person or group leasing the school facilities to purchase liability insurance identifying the Board as an additional insured.  A certificate verifying the purchase of such insurance should be presented to the Board at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to use of the facilities.
     

  3. A statement that the individual or group lessee shall assume all responsibility for damages and/or mainte­nance expenses invested in the building, directly or indirectly resulting from lessee's use.

         

The Board shall direct the Superintendent to develop such administrative rules and regulations governing the use of school facilities as he/she may require.

 

The Board reserves the right to refuse any request to use facilities which:

 

  1. Concerns any activities prohibited by statute and/or Board policy;
     

  2. Is made by any persons or organizations which have failed to follow procedures developed by the Superintendent or his/her designee;
     

  3. Is considered in any way contrary to the best interests of the school system.

 

At no time shall a person employed by the School Board use any school property or facilities for personal gain.  In the event any individual is found using school facilities for his/her personal gain, he/she shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Board.

 

SCHOOL BOARD PROPERTY

 

All public school equipment shall be used for school-related activities only.  Whenever there is a need to utilize public school equipment off the school grounds, written authorization by the Superintendent or his/her designee shall be required prior to the removal of said equipment.

 

At no time shall a person employed by the School Board use any school property for personal gain.  In the event an indi­vidual is found using school property for his/her personal gain, he/she shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Board.
